Primary Function
All SASP personnel currently operate under unified highway patrol and general law enforcement functions. Troopers are responsible for all aspects of patrol, traffic enforcement, criminal investigation, and public safety response on state highways and within 0.65 miles of any state highway.

The following specialized functions are referenced in current SASP operating procedures. Formal unit designations are pending organizational development:
Highway Patrol
The primary function of all SASP troopers. Highway Patrol troopers enforce traffic laws on all state highways, respond to crashes, conduct traffic stops, and maintain public order on the state road network. All patrol units are required to document every civilian encounter in CAD and maintain vehicles at minimum half a tank of fuel at all times.
K9 Unit
K9 operations are governed by specific procedures within the SASP SOP. K9 deployments require a minimum of three to four troopers on scene. The K9 handler and K9 take primary control of any deployment. No trooper shall position themselves in front of the K9 during an active deployment.
Subdivisions Status
The SASP Standard Operating Procedures designate subdivisions as To Be Determined (TBD). This page will be updated as the agency formally establishes its divisional structure. Personnel assignments, unit commanders, and specialty program information will be published here when available.
